Hearing and Well Being

There are a number of studies that demonstrate how hearing loss negatively impacts interpersonal relationships, physical and mental health, and even self esteem. In 1999, the National Council on Aging published a study regarding the impact hearing loss can have on an individual's general health. When the study compared two groups of people with hearing loss, the group that wore hearing aids:

hearing and well being

Were less likely to suffer from depression
Were more likely to be employed and have higher household incomes
Were more likely to engage in activities involving other people
Experienced greater intimacy in personal relationships
